INTRODUCTION:

The California Health and Safety Code Section 65525, requires that all parts of the pool water purification system shall be kept in operation whenever the pool is available for use, and at such additional times and periods as may be necessary to maintain the water in the pool in a clear and disinfected condition.

BACKGROUND:  When the pool recirculation equipment is not in operation:

The disinfecting agent (usually chlorine) is not continuously/uniformly applied to the water.

There is no skimming action to remove sputum or other material.

There is no filtration of waste materials, including fecal material.

There is an increased risk of communicable disease transmission.

POWER OUTAGE:  Your pool may not be used during power outages.

When electrical power is restored it will be mandatory to test the water chemistry to determine if the disinfectant and ph levels are adequate prior to re-opening the pool for use.

QUESTIONS:  If you have any questions regarding this letter, please contact this department at (916) 875-8440 or your district inspector.
