Questions about EMD's Move
WHY has the Environmental Management Department (EMD) Moved?
The Sacramento County Environmental Management Department has been at the 8475 Jackson Road location for more than 20 years, during which time the size of the department has outgrown the aged facility. With the expiration of our existing lease, a new lease has been signed in an energy efficient building in the Mather Field area.
The Environmental Health Plan Review Unit, currently located in downtown Sacramento, has also moved to the Mather location.
WHERE has EMD moved to?
After several years of planning, EMD has moved to a new leased facility on the former Mather Air Force Base in the Rancho Cordova area. Our new facility is located about 7 miles from our current Jackson Road facility, off US Highway 50 at the Mather Field Road exit.
If you view the 10590 Armstrong Avenue site in Google Maps with the Satellite view or one of the other mapping sites that utilize a satellite view, you might notice an empty lot where the building is supposed to be. The 10590 Armstrong facility is new construction and is not yet included in the satellite imagery. The building is on Armstrong Avenue, between Bullard Street and Bleckley Street, directly across the street from the Blood Source building (which currently shows on the satellite map as a parking lot).
WHEN did the move take place?
The move started on Friday, April 24, 2009, with EMD open for business at the new location beginning Monday, April 27, 2009.
HOW am I able to contact EMD?
All EMD telephone numbers and e-mail addresses remain the same. All classes, meetings, appointments and mobile inspections that occur at EMD will occur at the 10590 Armstrong Avenue location beginning April 27, 2009. The new facility has ample visitor parking near the main entrance off Armstrong Ave.
WHEN may I visit the new location?
The Environmental Management Department will be open for business at the 10590 Armstrong Avenue facility on Monday, April 27th with our regular hours (8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.) The complete transition will take a few days, so if you are planning to visit the new EMD building the first several days after the move (April 27-29) it might be a good idea to call ahead to make sure we can meet your needs.
WHERE are the downtown Environmental Health Plan Review staff located?
The Environmental Health Plan Review staff are joining the rest of EMD at the 10590 Armstrong Avenue facility, after having been located in a leased portion of another County facility in downtown Sacramento for many years.
Note: Plans may still be dropped off at the Planning Department, 827 7th Street, Rm. 102. They will be transported to the EMD facility on Armstrong Avenue for processing.
Payments for Plan Review can be remitted to the new EMD facility on Armstrong Avenue by mail or in person.

WHERE should I send materials for EMD?
During the next few weeks EMD will be changing our forms, handouts, mailers, invoices, etc to reflect the new location. Beginning Monday, April 27, 2009, any material being sent to either of our old addresses:
